James Boyce Caldwell, III
WILLISTON, SC - A Celebration of Life service for James Boyce "Jim" Caldwell, III, 54, formerly of Rock Hill, SC, will be held two pm Tuesday, November 3, 2015 at the Williston Cemetery with Dr. Beth Yarborough officiating. The family has asked that memorials in Jim's memory be made to the Gallagher's Army; Fallen Officers Fund, 1-888-994-4483, The Mike Gallagher Show Charitable Foundation, 350 5th Ave., Suite 4710, New York, New York 10118 or to a . Jim passed away on October 29, 2015 in Rock Hill.
Born in Abbeville, SC on November 19, 1960 he was a son of James Boyce Caldwell, Jr. and Carol Clark Caldwell. A resident of Rock Hill from 1965 until 1990, Jim was educated at Winthrop Training School and in the Rock Hill School District. He finished Northwestern High School in 1979. After receiving an Associates Degree from York Technical College in 1985, Jim completed his Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1988 at Winthrop University.
Jim was employed at General Fabricators, Inc. in Rock Hill during High School and stayed there several years before working at Piedmont Interstate Warehouse in Rock Hill. Shortly after finishing at Winthrop University, Jim went to work at the Savannah River Site as a Security Police Officer with Wackenhut, Inc. He was with Savannah River for twenty five years and has resided in Williston, SC since 1990.
Jim was known as a dedicated and reliable Officer and was the recipient of numerous citations for exemplary work. He was a member of the First Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church in Rock Hill, past member of the Rock Hill Jaycees, and avid hunter, fisherman, and golfer. Jim was extremely well read, particularly in history, and was interested in current events. He was also a great fan of sports, in particular the University of South Carolina Football and Baseball, as well as Winthrop University Athletics.
Jim is survived by his parents James Boyce Caldwell Jr. of Clover, SC and Carol Clark Caldwell of Rock Hill, SC; also his brother Clark Caldwell of Rock Hill, and a number of aunts, uncles and cousins. He was predeceased by his grandparents, James Boyce Caldwell Sr. and Julia Pursley Caldwell.
The Caldwell family would like to thank all of Jim's friends and especially his fellow officers at the Savannah River Site for their support and concern. The family in particular thanks Mr. AW "BEBO" Flynn of Williston for his tireless efforts in helping Jim throughout his illness. Also, the Pruitt Health Hospice Nurse, Patsy Clontz, and other staff members were a great help to Jim and the rest of the family during his final weeks.
