James Duncan Neal, Jr.
BELVEDERE, SC - U.S. Navy Chief Petty Officer, James Duncan Neal, Jr., 87, of Belvedere, South Carolina went to be with our Lord on Friday, September 2, 2016. He was born April 8, 1929 in Chester, South Carolina. He retired from the U.S. Navy's Pacific 7th Fleet, having completed thirty years active and reserve service. Chief Petty Officer Neal served three tours in the Korean Conflict and three tours in the Vietnam War. Chief Petty Officer Neal received many medals, citations and commendations for his gallant service in Korea and Vietnam Wars. He loved his country, and served with dedication and honor.
He was preceded in death by his father, James Duncan Neal, Sr.; mother, Laura Hogan Neal; son, James Walter Neal; brother, Cecil Neal; sister, Mary Neal Stutzman and grandson, David King. He is survived by his wife, Lucille Martin Neal of Roebuck, SC; daughters, Tonya Neal King of Dayton, TN, Jami Ewals and son-in-law Jim Ewals of Indigo, CA; daughter-in-law, Cathy McIlvried Neal of North Augusta, SC; brother and sisters-in-law, Marion and LaRose Neal of Clearwater, SC; grandchildren, Debbie Pierce, Jason Ewals, Justine Johnson, Bettina Martin; great-grandchildren, Michael Nixon, Jason Nixon, Gavin Ewals, Jaxson Johnson and Justin Johnson, Kara Martin, Jerry Martin and Chris Martin; great-great-grandchildren, Cander Nixon, Olivia Nixon and nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, September 8, 2016 from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, September 9, 2016 at the funeral home. Interment will be at 12:00 noon in Fort Jackson National Cemetery, Columbia, SC, with military honors.
