James Dwight "Jim" West, Sr.
WAGENER, SC - James Dwight "Jim" West, Sr. of Wagener, SC passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his family, on Saturday, December 3, 2016.
Mr. West was a 1969 graduate of The Citadel and President of West Tire and Oil, Inc.
He returned to his hometown of Wagener, after serving in the U.S. Army, and the Vietnam War. He believed in small-town America, and devoted his life to serving his community.
He served on the Aiken County Commission on Higher Education, until his illness prevented his participation. He was a member of the VFW Post 6304, and an avid supporter of all those serving our country in the Armed Forces. He was a Past Master of Cedar Masonic Lodge # 184 in Wagener, and a member of Wagener United Methodist Church, where he served as long-time chairman of the Administrative Council, and as an adult and child Sunday School Teacher.
Mr. West was the son of the late Sadie and Otis P. West. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Johnnie Allen West, a son and his wife J.D. and Megan West, and beloved grandson, John Allen West.
He is also survived by a brother Ronnie (Lynn) West and sisters Jacque (Gerald) Rawls and Peggy (Dwight) Yon.
The family wishes to thank the Doctors and Nurses at the Charlie Norwood Veterans' Hospital, as well as Mr. West's Hospice Nurse, Robin Whittle, for the special love and care they extended to the entire family.
The Funeral Services will be held at 11 am Wednesday at Wagener United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the church fellowship hall. Mr. West will be laid to rest in the Wagener Cemetery with Masonic Rites and Military Honors.
