James Gilbert
AIKEN CO., S.C. - James "Uncle Jimmy" Bauzel Gilbert, Sr, 78, of Aiken County, SC went home to be with Our Lord on Monday, July 7, 2014. He was surrounded by his loving family.
A celebration of life service will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, July 12 at Heights Church, 4631 Jefferson Davis Hwy, Beech Island SC. Pastor Mark Canipe will be officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Heights Church building fund.
James was born December 25, 1935 in Altha, Florida to William Lonnie Gilbert and Mallie Clyde Gilbert. He attended school in Altha and Quincy, Florida.
James served 25 years in the U.S. Army. He served in Korea and in Viet Nam, and was awarded two purple hearts. James retired as Sgt. First Class and was very proud of the time he served his country. James was an active member of Heights Church and was a Servant Leader. He was involved in several missions groups and participated in community outreach programs.
He also enjoyed gardening, fishing, and spending time with his children, grandchildren, and all of his extended family.
James is survived by his wife, Cheryl Gilbert, his son Jamie Gilbert, his daughters, Marie (Gilbert) Morris and Mary Gilbert; three grandchildren, Daniel Clairmonte, Jae and Tegan Gilbert, as well as many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents and six siblings, and a son, James B. Gilbert, Jr.
