James P. "J.P." Herrin, Jr.
NEWBERRY, SC - James P. "J.P." Herrin, Jr., 87, died Monday, October 6, 2014, at Newberry County Memorial Hospital.
Born on October 22, 1926, in Aiken, he was a son of the late James P. Herrin, Sr. and Fannie Mae Toole Herrin. He was a World War II Navy veteran and was retired from Bell South. He was a member of First Baptist Church where he was in the Fellowship Sunday School Class, an usher, on the teller committee and was a nursing home helper.
Mr. Herrin is survived by his wife, Ruby Connelly Herrin; sons, James D. (Lori) Herrin and Alan W. (Andy) Herrin both of Aiken; a daughter, Alicia Herrin (Jerry) Willingham of Newberry; step-daughters, Linda Hiller of Prosperity and Dale (Mark) Smith of Newberry; sisters, Lorena Jackson and Evelyn Finnegan both of Aiken; five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren. Mr. Herrin was predeceased by his first wife, Alice Perkins Herrin, a grandson, Jessie Marcus Willingham, brother, Perrin P. Herrin, sisters, Julia Herrin, Cleora H. Henkes and Frances Botkin.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Thursday, October 9, 2014, at First Baptist Church by the Rev. Dr. Albert Allen and Rev. Dr. Kenneth Harmon. Burial will follow in Newberry Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5:30 - 7:00 pm at McSwain-Evans Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 1020 Boundary Street, Newberry, SC 29108.
