Joan Mary Morris
NORTH AUGUSTA, SC - The Savior of the world called His daughter Joan Mary Morris to her eternal Home on Friday, August 22, 2014, after an extended battle with cancer. August 22 is the same date on which her mother went to be with The Lord in 1986. Her funeral Services will be held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at Lake Park Baptist Church. Rev. Bob Gosey and Rev. Bob Bowman, her cousin, officiating. Interment will follow in Westover Memorial Park.
Mrs. Morris was born in Augusta on July 29, 1932, to the late Dora Elizabeth and Millard Fillmore Morris. She lived in Augusta all her life and attended Tubman High School before marrying William Archie Morris, Jr., on December 23, 1949. They enjoyed a loving marriage until his death in March of 1991.
Mrs. Morris was a member of Lake Park Baptist Church for 62 years and the Willing Workers Sunday School Class as a senior adult. For years she faithfully took lunch to the Developmentally Disabled Ministry Children's Home and also to the families of burn patients at Doctor's Hospital. She served on the Women's Board of the Augusta Rescue Mission and was an anchor of Sanders Day Care, where she lovingly cared for many children. After her retirement from Aiken Printing Press, she worked at Goody Two Shoes.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Brenda Elaine in 1951 and her sons, William Archie Morris, III (Billy) in 1955 and Archie Allen Morris in 2013. Survivors include three sons, Byron Millard (Anne) Morris, North Augusta, SC, Victor Glenn (Sibbie) Morris, Augusta, GA and Michael Derrick Morris, Grovetown, GA; 10 grandchildren, Greg Morris, Joshua (Susan) Morris, Byron Morris, Jr., (Lauren), Caleb (Amber) Morris, Joseph Morris, Rebecca Morris, Glenn Morris, Christopher(Dorn) Morris, Bridgett Morris and Derrick Morris; 12 great-grandchildren, Isabel Morris, Matthew Morris, Taylor Morris, McNeil Morris, Levi Morris, Emma Morris, Byron Morris, III, Ames Morris, Bryson Wiggins, Brylee Morris, Avery Morris and Audrey Morris; two brothers, Thad (Anne) Calhoun, Wayne (Connie) Morris; three sisters, Fay Miller, Patricia Black and Gloria (Eli) Johnson.
Honorary Pallbearers will be members of her Sunday School Class. Active Pallbearers will be her grandsons.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home this Monday evening from 5 until 8.
Mrs. Morris loved God with a steadfast heart and loved everyone He brought into her life. Her family wishes to thank her doctors and caregivers for their kindness to her.
