John Anthony Schlesser
AIKEN - John Anthony Schlesser of Aiken, South Carolina passed away October 7, 2017, one day after his 75th birthday.
John was born in New York City on October 6, 1942 and spent his early years with his big family in Staten Island. He is preceded in death by his sister Ellen and brother Stephen. He is survived by his brothers Peter and William. On June 20th 1964 he married the love of his life Lee Ann Crean. They would be married for 51 years before she passed away in February 2015.
They moved to Aiken in 1973 after he graduated from City College of New York with a masters in Chemical Engineering. They would be blessed with their daughter Kristen Ann soon after and their son, John Crean would complete their family in 1977. John loved his family deeply and was their treasured dad.
John would spend the majority of his career as a Nuclear Safety Engineer at the Savannah River Site with a ten year stint at the Los Alamos National Laboratory in Los Alamos, New Mexico (1989-1999). He loved his work so much that he never retired and continued to work right up until he became sick in August 2017.
John's great loves were his wife, Lee Ann, his children John Crean and Kristen Ann, Son-in law Brian Henneke and his grandchildren Haley Elizabeth and Mason John. He loved the railroad, riding and collecting trains. His extensive collection of Lionel trains is legendary! He was a familiar face down at the New Moon Cafe;, where they loved him like family.
He passed away in the hospital surrounded by those he loved and those who loved him. A small private service was held at All Saints Catholic Church in Manassas, Virginia on Tuesday October 31, at 10 am.
