John Dennis Creadick
St. Augustine, Florida - John Dennis Creadick of St. Augustine, Florida, passed away unexpectedly Monday, February 24, 2014. He was born November 8th, 1934 in Kenmore, NY, to the late John Conlyn Creadick and Laura Liles Creadick. John was a loving husband, father and grandfather, a business leader, an active member of his church and community, and particularly loved music and playing the piano.
John graduated from St. Andrews School in Middleton, Delaware, and Duke Univer-sity School of Business. He then joined the Navy, and after attending Officer Candidate School in Newport, Rhode Island, served as an airborne radar control officer at Barber's Point Naval Air Station in Honolulu, Hawaii. John married Jane Lee Darnell of Durham, North Carolina in June of 1957.
John's banking career began in 1961 with First Union National Bank, and included positions in Charlotte, Asheville, Chapel Hill, and Durham, North Carolina. He became president of First American Bank in Athens, Georgia in 1976, then returned to Asheville, North Carolina with Northwestern Bank, which later merged with First Union. He transferred to St. Augustine, Florida in 1987 and retired in 1997 as President of First Union in St. Augustine.
John is survived by his wife, Jane Darnell Creadick; daughter Sally Robinson of Watkinsville, Georgia, husband Mike and their children Matthew and Avery; son Jack (John Conlyn) Creadick of Abilene, Texas, wife Rita and their children Jay (John Dennis II) and Kevin; and daughter Laura Montgomery of Lilburn, Georgia, husband David and their son Jeremiah. He is also survived by his sister, Molly Creadick Gray of Aiken, South Carolina and husband Peter.
John was very active in local civic activities wherever he lived, and was charter president of the St. Augustine Sunrise Rotary Club and served as president of the United Way in Athens and St. Augustine. He was also very active in his church, Trinity Episcopal in St. Augustine, serving as vestryman and senior warden. John resided part of the year in Brevard, North Carolina where he and Jane attended St. Philips Episcopal Church.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, March 8, 2014, at Trinity Episcopal Church in St. Augustine. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Trinity Episcopal Church, 215 St. George Street, St. Augustine, FL 32084, or United Way of St. John's County, 117 Bridge Street, St. Augustine, FL 32084.
