John W. Taylor
NORTH AUGUSTA, SC - John William Taylor of North Augusta, son of J. Will & Bertie Shellhouse Taylor of Aiken, passed peacefully at Trinity Hospital on Friday, January 15, 2016.
His funeral service was held at 11:00 AM on Monday, January 18, 2016 at First Baptist Church North Augusta with Dr. Ryan Pack officiating. Interment followed at Pineview Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by American Legion Post 71.
Born on April 30, 1926, Mr. Taylor was married to Ernestine Proctor of Graniteville for 67 years. They traveled extensively, seeing all 50 states and much of Europe. They toured the Great Wall of China and the Panama Canal. His family, including his four children, nine grandchildren, and his church, First Baptist of North Augusta, were the center of his life. He was active in the American Legion.
Mr. Taylor served overseas during World War II in the Army, culminating in serving at General Eisenhower's headquarters.
He retired as a sales manager from Prudential Insurance Company and then assisted with founding family-operated Taylor Realty.
Mr. Taylor is survived by his wife, daughter Linda Caughman (Bill) of Columbia, sons Richard Taylor (Susan) & Roger Taylor (Debra) of North Augusta & Gary Taylor (Ellen) of Columbia.
His grandchildren include: Scott Caughman, Claire Caughman, Taylor Caughman, Jason Taylor, Austin Taylor (Heather), Karen Taylor, John Robert Taylor, Mitchell Taylor, & Philip Taylor.
He is survived by a sister, Laura Hicks of Aiken and numerous nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by sisters Velma Couch, Dorothy Brown, Kathleen Cynova, Mildred Banes, Ruth Walton, Marjorie Thomas, Mary McLean and brother Joseph Taylor.
The family received friends on Sunday, January 17, 2016 from 3:00 until 5:00 PM at Rowland Funeral Home.
Mr. Taylor's seven grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
