NORTH AUGUSTA, SC - Funeral Services for Mr. Joseph Clyde Roy, Jr., 72, of North Augusta, SC, who entered into rest February 18, 2014, will be conducted Friday morning at 11:30 from Grace United Methodist Church. Rev. James D. Dennis, Jr. officiating. Interment in Pineview Memorial Park with Veterans Honors.
Mr. Roy was born in Chattanooga, Tennessee on September 1, 1941 and was a former resident of Columbia, SC, having made North Augusta his home for the past twenty one years. He was the son of the late Joseph Clyde Roy, Sr. and Dorothy Mae Hathcock Roy. Mr. Roy graduated from Georgia Institute of Technology in 1963 with a Bachelor of Science in Building Construction and obtained a Master of Science in Administration from The George Washington University in 1970. He was a member of Phi Kappa Tau Fraternity. Mr. Roy was commissioned in the United States Army and served for six years. He began working in the homebuilding business in 1970, and went on to start his own company which he owned for thirty years. Mr. Roy was a true artist and was passionate about each one of the hundreds of homes he designed and constructed across Georgia and South Carolina. His homes were meticulously detailed, each one constructed with a tribute to the Williamsburg style of architecture he so deeply admired.
He met and married Diana Bolen Roy of Atlanta, GA in 1963. Together, they traveled in the Army and raised a family in Virginia, Greenville, SC, Columbia, SC, and Augusta, GA, before finally settling in North Augusta, SC. He was a former member of Union United Methodist Church in Irmo, SC. He was a current member of Grace United Methodist Church and the Cokesbury Sunday School class in North Augusta, SC. After retirement he enjoyed sharing his musical talents on the piano, playing for his Sunday school class, the church and for the Heart and Vascular Institute at University Hospital. He loved the outdoors, and enjoyed camping with his wife and family and watching his Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets in football. Mr. Roy was most loved by his family, and was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.
