AIKEN, SC - June Lawson Spaunburgh, 88, beloved wife of Richard George Spaunburgh, died Monday, January 4, 2016 at her residence following an extended illness.
A native of Worcester, MA, June was a daughter of the late John and Gladys Turner Lawson. She lived in Aiken since 1973 and was a member of First Presbyterian Church and Houndslake Country Club. Her hobbies included sewing and knitting. An avid bowler for many years, she was a former secretary for the Ladies League in Aiken. She enjoyed volunteering at her church and for Meals on Wheels.
Survivors, in addition to Richard, her husband for 65 years, include a daughter, Linda S. Lawing, Moncks Corner, SC; a son, David R. Spaunburgh (Jeanne), Indian Harbour Beach, FL; five grandchildren, Preston Riley, Richard Riley (Kala), Matthew Spaunburgh (Meredith),
Lauren Spaunburgh and Nicholas Spaunburgh; three great-grandchildren, Natalie Riley, Brayden Carr and Parker Spaunburgh.
The family is especially grateful to Vallery Tyler, her primary caregiver for over 5 years for her compassionate care and also to the caregivers of ResCare and the staff of Liberty Hospice.
A memorial service will be held Monday afternoon, January 11th at 2 o'clock at First Presbyterian Church with The Revs. Brian Coulter and Holly Shoaf-O'Kula officiating.
A reception will follow in the fellowship hall.
