Leila Mae Slough Oetter
AIKEN, SC - Leila Oetter passed peacefully to be with her Savior, Jesus Christ, on April 11, 2017.
She was born in Haddam, KS on March 22, 1930 to LeRoy and Olga Slough. She was raised in Neligh, NE where she met her husband of 43 years, Earl Oetter. The couple married Nov 10, 1951 and later moved to Las Vegas where they built a house together and raised 4 children. Leila and Earl also loved the mountains of southern Utah and built a cabin there, splitting their time between the two places until Earl's passing in 1994. Leila loved the desert and lived there for 60 years. In 2012, she moved to Aiken, SC to be cared for by her daughter, Lana Works Lester.
Leila enjoyed reading, discussing religion and politics, feeding the deer at their mountain cabin, collecting wildflowers, and she loved laughter. Leila is survived by her sisters Jean Slough and Cheri (Don) Cornett; children James (Susan) Oetter, Lana (Barry) Lester, David Oetter, Janet (Tim) Seckel; 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. "Her children rise up and call her blessed" (Proverbs 31:28). We love you and miss you, and will see you in heaven!
