Marcus LaDon Vickers
Ninety Six - Marcus LaDon Vickers, 76, of 132 Pioneer Road, Ninety Six, husband of Clydia Page Vickers, died Wednesday, May 7, 2014 at his home in the Epworth community.
He was born in Columbus, GA and grew up in Graniteville, a son of the late Young Howard and Beulah Spence Vickers.
Mr. Vickers served in and later retired from the US Navy, where he served during the Vietnam War on the USS Independence CVA 62. He was also an excellent gunsmith, hunter and fisherman, and holds a patent on an electric distillery for Vickers Brothers Whiskey. He was affectionately known around Greenwood as "the Piccalo Man", having been employed by and retiring from Greenwood Music Company.
He was a member of Refiner's Fire Christian Assembly Church.
Surviving is his wife of 47 years; his children, Marcus Vickers, Jr. of Aiken, Stephen Brewer of Hilton Head, Greg Brewer of Augusta, GA, Allison Janis of Ninety Six, LaDonna Jantzen of Aiken, and Vic Vickers (Teresa) of Greenville; sisters, Sarah Monigan (Jim) and Mahala Roberson (Jacob), both of Aiken, Mary Yonce (Darryl) of Deland, FL and Martha Senterfiet (Conlee) of Ridge Spring; brothers, William Vickers (Joyce) and Walter Earl Vickers (Ginny), both of McCormick; grandchildren, Marcus Vickers, III (Suzanne) of Warrenville, Raegan Casto (David) of Sylvester, VA, Chrissy Jantzen of Aiken, Joshua Janis and Adam Janis, Taylor Campbell (Justin) of Donalds, Patrick Vickers of Greenville, Page Brewer, Charlie Ann Brewer and Jackson Brewer, all of Hilton Head; seven great grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Harley Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Hank Yonce and the Rev. Byron Jones officiating. Burial will be in Aiken Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Justin Campbell, Marcus Vickers, III, David Casto, Jamie Angelos, Joey Manley and Joey Hazel.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m.
