NORTH AUGUSTA, SC - Graveside Services for Mrs. Mary Biggar Chalfant, 87, who entered into rest November 28, 2015, will be conducted Tuesday morning at 11 o'clock in Pineview Memorial Gardens. Mr. Don Iverson officiating.
Mrs. Chalfant was a native of Old Hickory, Tennessee having made the Aiken and North Augusta area her home since 1952.
She was a graduate of Du Pont Grammar School, Mt. Juliet High School and Nashville Business College, and attended the University of South Carolina at Aiken. She was employed by the Du Pont Company for 37 years and was transferred to the Savannah River Plant in 1952. She was administrative assistant to several members of management and retired in 1983 as a relocation administrator in the Personnel Department.
After retirement, she enjoyed spending summers in the mountains at Linville Land Harbor, North Carolina. Mrs. Chalfant was a member of Central Church of Christ in Augusta, and the Banner Elk Church of Christ in North Carolina. She enjoyed gardening and was a member of the Hill and Dale Garden Club in North Augusta. Mrs. Chalfant was a volunteer at the Cannon Memorial Hospital in Linville, North Carolina.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Philip and Dorris Biggar, Ladson, SC; two grandchildren, Jamie Biggar (Shannon), and Chad Biggar. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon Chalfant, Jr. and parents, Herman Foster Burke and Minnie Bean Burke.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday evening from 5PM until 7PM.
