MaryLee Anderson Herdt
AIKEN, SC - MaryLee Anderson Herdt, 89, of Aiken, SC, passed away on June 25, 2016 at Aiken Regional Medical Center. She had been a resident of Anchor Health & Rehab of Aiken since September 2012.
Born February 15, 1927, in Rochester, PA, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Ida Masters Anderson. She was a member of St. Johns UMC in Aiken, SC. She was Past Worthy Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star Queen City Chapter #141 in Aiken and a member of the Amaranth in Aiken.
She graduated from Geneva College with a BS degree in both Music and Education. She was a gifted pianist, organist and vocal soloist who taught hundreds of children and adults to play and sing for over fifty years. She was also a church organist and choir director for many years. She continued to play the piano weekly at Anchor Health and Rehab where she resided for the past several years.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Simon S. Herdt, Jr. and a sister, Blanche Anderson Martino.
She is survived by a son, Charles R. Herdt (Sue) of Beaver Falls, PA and two daughters, Mary Jane Adkison (Tom) and Judith Ann Kalbaugh (Kevin) of Aiken, SC, two grandsons, Corey A. Kalbaugh (Juli) and Daniel S. Adkison, five granddaughters, Michele Herdt, Cynthia Adkison, Brooke Kalbaugh Brittain (Matt), Chelsea Herdt Dawson (Matt), and Courtney Herdt Konarski (Chris), three great-grandsons, Michael Losavio, Grayson Brittain, and Lucas Konarski, and one great-granddaughter, Novella Kalbaugh.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 16, 2016 at St. John's UMC, 104 Newberry St., Aiken, SC, 29801 at 11:00AM. Friends will be received following the service in Ward Hall.
Interment was held on July 1, 2016 at Sylvania Hills Cemetery, Rochester, PA. Memorial contributions may be made to St. John's UMC building fund, Aiken, SC, or the PO Box 11454, Alexandria, VA. 22312.
The family would like to express their sincere appreciation for the quality of care given by the staff at Anchor Health & Rehab.
