Dr. Michael R. McCann
AIKEN, SC - Dr. Michael Ralph McCann, 78, of Aiken, SC, formerly of Ravenswood, W. VA, died June 24th, 2016 at his residence. At his request, his body was cremated. A Celebration of Life will take place at a later date. Father Gregory Wilson will celebrate a Requiem Mass at St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church, Aiken, where Dr. McCann was a member.
Michael was born in Charleston, WV to Joseph C. and Mary Goodwin McCann. He attended St. Agnes school and graduated from Charleston Catholic High School in 1955. After completing his under graduate degree in two years at West VirginiaUniversity, he was accepted into the new dental program there and was a member of its first graduating class in 1961, becoming the youngest licensed dentist to practice in WV. He served two years in the USArmy at Fort Jackson, SC. Dr. McCann then established a dental practice in Ravenswood, WV for 38 years, until his retirement in 1999. His cremains will be interred in Ravenswood at a private ceremony.
Dr. McCann was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon social fraternity, Alpha Epsilon Delta fraternity, the Knights of Columbus, Sons of the American Revolution, Kentucky Colonels, and Lions. He served as President of the Ravenswood Chamber of Commerce and was an active member of the Adopt A Family Program there. He was Chairman of the Building Committee for the new St. Matthew Catholic Church, Ravenswood.
Survivors include his wife Robin, son Todd McCann, of Evans, WV, and granddaughter Madisyn McCann, also of Evans, WV, his sister Margaret Webster and husband Dennis of Fairhope, AL, sister-in-law Annyce McCann of Charleston, WV, nephews Patrick McCann and wife Jennifer of Macedonia, OH, Michael E. McCann and wife Pilar of Brookline, MA, Brian McCann and wife Linnet of Teays Valley, WV and two nieces, Erin Valleskey and husband Dave of Liberty Township, OH and Sarah Webster-Smith and husband Shane of Auburn, AL. Survivors also include great-nephews Bleyd and Lokyn and great-nieces Gabrielle, Ashley, Katherine, and Olivia. He was predeceased by his parents and his big brother Joseph E. McCann, all of Charleston, WV.
The family would like to thank Dr. Ryan Cremeans with St. Francis hospital in Charleston, WV, for his comfort and care, Dr. Marc Brickman and staff in Aiken, SC, and the members of Care South Hospice, also of Aiken. Their support and compassion went above and beyond.
