Monson Randolph "Monk" Ennis
BEECH ISLAND, SC - Monson Randolph "Monk" Ennis, 78, husband of Mary Sheppard Ennis, of Beech Island, died September 19, 2015, surrounded by his family.
Born March 15, 1937 in Aiken, South Carolina, he was the son of the late Ralph Ennis and Birdie Pettis Ennis.
He was a life long resident of Beech Island and was of the Baptist faith. He met and married his wife April 30, 1960.
He began working with textiles for United Merchants, where he retired after 35 years of dedicated work. To ensure his family was well taken care of, he also worked as a mail carrier, driving mail from Aiken to Augusta, and milking cows at the Dairy Barn.
He was a life- time Masonic member of the Andrews Lodge #391, Beech Island. When he wasn't working, he enjoyed fishing with his family, where he would only stay if HE was catching anything!
His family remembers him as a loving husband, father, and grandfather.
Monk was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Eddie P. Ennis and his five younger sisters, who he lost when they were very young.
He will be deeply missed by his wife of 55 years; his children, Teresa Taylor (Martin) of Beech Island, Mary Lee Cummings (PeeWee) of Beech Island, Mattie Jones, of Beech Island, Randy Ennis (Wendy) of Jackson, and Renee Harris (Shawn) of Warrenville; his siblings, Ophelia Starnes, of North Augusta, Jimmy Ennis (Donna) of Aiken, and Clemson Ennis of Warrenville; his sister-in-law, Margie Ennis of Warrenville; his special brother-in-law, Bill Sheppard; his niece, Diane Deadwyler; his 14 grandchildren; and his 11 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Thursday, September 24, 2015 from 6-8PM at Hatcher Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be Friday, September 25, 2015 at 11AM in the chapel of the funeral home, with Pastor Chris Williams officiating. Burial will follow at Southlawn Cemetery, Aiken.
Memorial contributions may be made in Monk's memory to the Aiken SPCA, Albrecht Center for Animal Welfare, 199 Willow Run Road, Aiken 29801 or to the , 106 SRP Drive, Evans, GA 30809.
