Montague Williams Busbee
MAPLE VALLEY, WA - Montague Williams Busbee, 43, died in a backcountry skiing accident near Snoqualmie Pass, Washington on December 19, 2015.
Monty is survived by his grandmother Mary Elizabeth Morris, parents Danty and Nita Busbee, sister Beth Busbee, and girlfriend Toni Smith.
He is preceded in death by grandparents Montague and Della Williams and Starr Busbee.
He graduated from Aiken High School in 1990 and held a bachelor's degree from Clemson University and a master's degree from Boise State University.
Monty was a professional hydrologist who worked to clean up contaminated soil and groundwater. Prior to his environmental career he was a whitewater rafting guide who helped others to enjoy wild rivers.
Monty was actively engaged in his life, his surroundings, and his loved ones. His fun, magnetic style, caring personality, and boundless capabilities made him dearly cherished by friends and family across the nation. Monty's passion for exploration led him to legendary rivers and mountains spanning the country-from his birthplace in South Carolina, to his latest home in Washington-and far beyond, to such places as Cambodia, Ecuador, and Alaska.
Monty will live on for generations in the hearts of all those with whom he joyfully traveled, worked, learned, laughed and played.
Sincere thanks to all those who worked to find Monty and bring him home, including volunteers with King County Search and Rescue Association.
A memorial service will be held on July 30, 2016 at 3:00pm First Presbyterian Church of Aiken, South Carolina.
Memorial donations in Monty's honor can be made to the Montague "Monty" Busbee '95 Endowment for Excellence at Clemson University, Clemson University Foundation, 110 Daniel Drive, Clemson, South Carolina, 29631.
