Muriel Leola Benoit
AIKEN, SC - Muriel L. (Stoddert) Benoit, 92, of 542 Palmetto Lane, Aiken, SC, and formerly of Burlington, VT, died Friday, October 28, 2016, at home following a short illness.
She was born on February 1, 1924, in Burlington, VT, the daughter of Rose A. (Barlow) and Lyle E. Stoddert. She attended Cathedral High School. On November 22, 1941, she was married in St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Burlington, VT, to Albert L. ("Sonny") Benoit, Sr. While raising her seven children, she worked for many years as a nurse's aide at both Mary Fletcher Hospital and Birchwood Nursing Home. She cherished her time working in both settings. In 1970, she and Sonny purchased Pete's Ice Cream on North Street in Burlington. After 10 years, they sold Pete's and retired to Ocala, FL. She and Sonny moved to Aiken, SC, in 2000. Muriel held a great love in her heart for all of her children and grandchildren. The highlight of any day for her was getting a call that would give her an update about their lives and accomplishments.
She is predeceased by her husband of 69 years, her parents, her sister Thelma Goddette, and her brother, Norman Stoddert. She is survived by her seven children: Carole (John) Harrigan, Sandra (Jack) Marr, Judith S. Benoit, Gail (George) Agan, Albert (Lia) Benoit, Jr., Marilyn (Kevin) Frye, and Cynthia (Michael) Gelinas, 10 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandsons, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
