Augusta, passed away unexpectedly at her residence on Monday, May 23, 2016. She was born May 26, 1946 to Lt. Col. Harold Thompson, Sr. and Lola Pickett Thompson in Birmingham, AL. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Rev. Dr. Robert Harold Thompson, II, and one sister, Elizabeth Thompson.
Pat was an active member of Lutheran Church of the Resurrection. She was a management and marketing cum laude graduate of USC-Aiken, including member-officer service in Alpha Kappa Psi Professional Business Fraternity. She was a retired business administrator and impassioned supporter of the arts community, most notably as Executive Director of the Augusta Symphony and Business Manager of the Augusta Choral Society. Pat accrued decades of enthusiastic civic contributions and honors, including North Augusta Women's Club Woman of the Year (1988), Augusta Chronicle's 25 Women Who Make a Difference (1993), CSR Girl Scouts Woman of Excellence (1993), Leadership Augusta graduate (1994), Metro Augusta Chamber of Commerce / Augusta Business magazine Woman of the Year (1995), and Greater Augusta Arts Council Arts Professional of the Year (1996). Her lifelong love of reading was manifest in her many years volunteering for the Nancy Carson Library, who honored her in 1989 with a commemorative brick in new library construction. Following retirement, Pat's greatest joy was playing with her grandchildren and spending time with family.
Pat is survived by her husband, Donald R. Finch, PhD of North Augusta; one son, D. Bryan Finch, of Greer, SC; one daughter, Jenna Gillis, and husband Bret of Summerville, SC; "Anna Pat's" four grandchildren - Matthew and Zachary Finch of Greer, SC, and Noah and Hope Gillis of Summerville, SC; one brother, John Thompson of Seneca, SC; two sisters - Kathryn Ringel and husband Eugene, and Cecelia Flanders and husband Joe, both of Martinez, GA; 14 nieces and nephews, along with a number of great-nieces and great-nephews.
