Peter Fayette Van Zile
MEDFORD, OR - Peter Fayette Van Zile, long-time Hawai`i resident whose early days were spent in Aiken, passed away on June 25 at his new home in Medford, Oregon. Peter, son of Austin and Jeanne Van Zile, graduated from Aiken Senior High in 1960 and was one of the first Eagle Scouts in Aiken County.
Upon graduating from USC, he entered the Peace Corps and served in India for two years. When he returned to the States, he moved to California where he met his wife. After their marriage, they moved to Hawai`i.
While living in Hawai`i he was in the Rotary Club and served for more than twenty-five years on the Board of Directors of Hawai`i's Sex Abuse Treatment Center. He retired 11 years ago from the positon of State-wide Director of Habitat for Humanities.
He is survived by his wife Judy, daughter Debra, brother Jonathan, and sisters Nancy and Gretchen. Ashes will be scattered in Hawai`i at a future time. No flowers, please. If desired, donations to MD Anderson Cancer Center (PO Box 4486, Houston, TX 77210 - designate "for kidney cancer research"), or a Hospice group of your choice.
