Mr. Shank, age 79 passed away on April 22, 2016. Dick was born in West Newton, Pennsylvania, a son of the late Robert and Helen Gunchuck Shank. After graduating from West Newton High school he attended The University of Pittsburgh where he received a BS in Mechanical Engineering and an MS in Nuclear Engineering.
As an early pioneer in the nuclear industry, Dick's career spanned 40 years with the Westinghouse company in various roles starting at the Bettis Atomic Power Plant in West Mifflin, PA, moving to the Nuclear Fuel Division in Monroeville, PA and finishing at The Savannah River Site near Aiken, South Carolina where he lived for the past 27 years.
Dick will be remembered as a loving, caring and dedicated husband, father and grandfather. He was extremely devoted to his Catholic faith and next to his family; this was the primary focus in his life. He was truly a selfless person who always put the interests of others ahead of his own.
He had an undeniable gift to make anyone feel good when he talked to them through his subtle dry sense of humor and his simple and humble way.
