Reverend Robert M. Mitchum
Reverend Robert M. Mitchum, 79, beloved husband of fifty-nine years to Mrs. Merle Mason Mitchum, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, April 24, 2015, in the comfort of his home, with his family at his side.
Born in and a lifelong resident of Aiken County, SC, he was a son of the late John Wesley and Emma Louise Cockrell Mitchum. A veteran of both the Korean and Vietnam Wars, he proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps, earing the rank of Sergeant. He was a former Chaplain for the Aiken Marine Corps League and was a former Chaplain with the State Marine Corps League. Rev. Mitchum was Pastor of Grace Baptist Church from September 1971 until the time of his death. He retired from B and S Machine Tool, where he was a Machinist. He enjoyed woodworking and was a Ham Radio Operator.
In addition to his wife and parents, family members
include his children, Robin Tinman and her husband, Tony, Cayce, SC, Sherryl Spence, Augusta, GA, Patrick Mitchum, Columbia, SC and Heather Whitaker and her husband, Jay, Evans, GA; siblings, Louise M. Brown, Cary, NC and John William Mitchum, Warrenville, SC; ten grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Monday, April 27, 2015, at 2 o'clock in the chapel of Hatcher Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Langley, SC, with Rev. Bob Boone officiating. Interment, with Honors provided by a United States Marine Corps Honor Guard will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, Bath, SC.
