Rose Osteen
GAINESVILLE, FL - Funeral Services for Mrs. Rose Belk Puette Osteen, 101, of Gainesville, Florida, who died at the home of her daughter, May 10, 2015, will be conducted Tuesday morning at 11 o'clock from the First Baptist Church of Jackson. Dr. Kenneth Klingler officiating.
Interment in Southlawn Cemetery.
Mrs. Osteen was born in Collettsville, North Carolina on December 17th 1913 to the late Reverend Charles Edgar and Victoria Belk Puette.
She graduated from Columbia College as an English and History major in 1937 and taught in the South Carolina School system for 35 years. Mrs. Osteen loved teaching and loved the students, believing that if you taught with love and forgiveness that students would focus more on learning than on their mistakes.
She loved history, geography and literature, having studied Greek and Latin with her father when he returned to college as an adult during his studies at seminary. Her skills with word games were a joy to her in retirement and she was quite competitive until her recent decline. She never lost her passion for learning.
Rose and her husband Pinckney Blalock Osteen located to Jackson, South Carolina, in 1955. The Osteen's were members of the First Baptist Church of Jackson where she sang in the choir and taught Sunday School until her move to Florida in 2001 .She additionally was preceded in death her son, David Osteen, her three brothers, Robert Puette, Lyman Puette and Charles Puette and her two sisters, Mary Wimberly and Elizabeth Graham.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law William P. and Pat Osteen, Beech Island, SC; her daughter, Glenna O. Auxier and her husband, Bob Perchalski, Gainesville, FL, five grandchildren, Allison(Andy) Hendrix, Anderson, S. C.. Casey (Josh) Williams, Roebuck, S. C. and Chip (Natalie) Osteen, Beech Island, S. C, Herschel Auxier, Chino, California, Jorma (Elizabeth) Osteen, and their children Ocean and Shiva Rose Osteen, Grass Valley, California; a host of nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday evening from 6pm until 8pm.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Haven Hospice, 4200 NW 90th Blvd., Gainesville, FL 32606.
The family wishes to express their enormous gratitude to Novela Claxton, Mrs. Osteen's loving care giver and Jeannin Thibodeau, her massage therapist both of whom contributed to her health and comfort in the last years of her long life.
