Samuel A. Smith, Jr.
NORTH AUGUSTA, SC - Funeral Services for Mr. Samuel A. Smith, Jr., 88, who entered into rest February 7, 2015, will be conducted Wednesday morning at 10 o'clock from the Posey Funeral Chapel. Bishop Jonathon L. Smith presiding. Interment in Pineview Memorial Park with Veterans Honors.
Mr. Smith was a native of Pennsylvania, a former resident of Maryland, having made North Augusta his home for the past 16 years. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Mr. Smith was a US Air Force Veteran of WWII, a graduate of East Stroudsburg College and earned Master's Degrees at both the University of Maryland and George Washington University. He spent much of his career as a secondary education teacher in geography, photography and industrial arts and also partnered with his wife to form Village Interiors. Mr. Smith enjoyed photography, travel and model railroads and was a past president of the CSRA Model Railroad Association. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who will be dearly missed and fondly remembered.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Sara Jane Smith; four daughters and sons-in-law, Beth and John Goodhue, Richmond, VA, Becky Smith, North Augusta, SC, Debbie and Bruce Christensen, San Antonio, TX and Wendy Smith, North Augusta, SC; a sister, Gaynor Policelli, Sugar Land, TX; seven grandchildren, Claire Goodhue, Alex Goodhue, David Goodhue, Brian Goodhue, Courtney Taylor, Eric Christensen and Colin Christensen; two great-grandchildren, Kilmer Taylor and Cora Taylor.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday evening from 5 until 7.
