Sim "Yank" McCarty, Jr.
NORTH AUGUSTA, SC - On July 4th, 2015, amid the glorious fireworks celebrating Independence Day, Mr. Sim "Yank" McCarty, Jr., 77, gained independence from his earthly body. Funeral Services will be conducted Wednesday morning at 11 o'clock from the Posey Funeral Chapel. Rev. Mark Owens and Rev. Barry Epps officiating. Interment in Spann United Methodist Church Cemetery, Ward, SC, with Veterans Honors.
Mr. McCarty was a native of Ridge Spring, SC, having made North Augusta his home for the past 55 years. He was a US Army Veteran and member of Johnston Memorial American Legion Post #154. Mr. McCarty was a member of the First Baptist Church of North Augusta, the Monday Night Supper Club of Saluda and Aiken Antique Tractor Association. He was a master woodworker who enjoyed crafting cradles for his grandchildren and making beautiful pieces of furniture for his family. "Yank" also enjoyed spending time with family and friends on his dove field and trout fishing in the mountains. One of his greatest joys was on his tractor at the farm planting his prized sunflower field.
Survivors include his loving wife of 54 years, Ann S. McCarty; two daughters and sons-in-law, Susan and Tracy Mode and Mary and Kevin O'Meara, all of North Augusta; six grandchildren, Taylor Mode, Katie Mode, Abbie Mode, Simeon O'Meara, Satchel O'Meara and Salter O'Meara; three sisters, Frances Crouch, Saluda, SC, Marion Rister, West Columbia, SC and Van Rae Bledsoe, Lexington, SC; a brother, Franklin D. McCarty, Irmo, SC; a brother-in-law, Carroll Salter, Ward, SC.
Pallbearers will be Van McCarty, Mike McCarty, Gene McCarty, Mitch McCarty, Mike Montei and Eddie Kea.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday evening from 5 until 7.
