AIKEN, SC - Beloved husband of 63 years, Wilburn "Wil" F. Edgar, 84, died Wednesday, January 6, 2016, at his home with his wife by his side.
Wil was born in Alabama and grew up in DeFuniak Springs, FL. He served in the United States Navy for 2 years aboard the USS Frank E. Evans Destroyer and served a year on Kwajalein in the Marshall Islands. He called Aiken home for the last 62 years and retired from the Savannah River Site where he was a nuclear chemist. Wil is remembered for his service to the Lord as deacon of Cornerstone Baptist Church, Sunday school teacher and a youth leader. Wil enjoyed working on cars, traveling with his wife and friends, and spending time with his family camping, and water skiing. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, January the 9th at Cornerstone Baptist Church, 100 Cornerstone Drive, Aiken, SC.
Wil was preceded in death by his parents, Jessie F and Ola McAdams Edgar of DeFuniak Springs, FL, and a sister, Frances Richards of DeFuniak Springs, FL.
Survivors include his wife, Jean B. Edgar, three sons, Terry (Gwen), Tommy (Sandy) of Tallahassee, FL, and Scott (Susan) Edgar of Grandview, MO, 5 grandchildren, Claire (Sean) Wills of Aiken, SC, Josh Edgar of Greenville, SC, Jodie Brewington, Amanda Sue Edgar of Honea Path, SC, and Eric Edgar of Due West, SC, a well as 8 great-grandchildren, a niece and a nephew.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cornerstone Baptist Church.
