William J. Shipman
AIKEN, SC - William Johnson Shipman, known affectionately as Bucko by family and friends, died February 21, 2017 with family by his side in Mount Pleasant, SC. He was 90 years old.
A memorial service will be held at a future date in Rocky Hill, Connecticut.
He was born December 22, 1926 in Philipsburg, NJ to Charles and Margaret (Thompson) Shipman. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. After the War, he returned to Connecticut and married his wife of 67 years, Jean Crocker Shipman. In 1988 he retired with Jean to Aiken, SC after being an auto mechanic specializing in Studebakers and Toyotas for over 40 years.
William is survived by this wife, Jean C. Shipman of Aiken, SC;4 children - Richard Shipman (Jane) of Kensington, CT, David Shipman (Christina) of Mount Pleasant, SC, Bruce Shipman of Aiken, SC, and Sharon Gardner of Newington, CT; and 9 grandchildren (Tracy, Jason, Brian, Bryce, Nona, Jonathan, Briana, Kayla, and Wil). He is also survived by his sister, Charlotte Shipman Lecrenier (Albert) of Wethersfield, CT; and several nieces and nephews.
