Mr. William Johnson, Jr.
NORTH AUGUSTA, SC - Mr. William Johnson, Jr., 88, of Edgefield Road, husband of Mary St. Clair Johnson, entered into rest on Friday, August 22, 2014 at University Hospital.
His funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, August 25, 2014 at Big Stevens Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Eric Bruton and Rev. Tommy Meador officiating. Interment will follow in Pineview Memorial Park.
Mr. Johnson was a member of Big Stevens Creek Baptist Church and a former member of the US Army Air Corp. He was an entrepreneur for restaurant, fuel oil and jewelry businesses. He was a professional boxer for a short time and also had the first radio show on WGUS Country Music. He retired as Assistant Chief of Medical Administration for the VA Hospital, and then retired from Johnson Jewelers in 1997.
Additional survivors include two sons, William Michael Johnson and his wife Terry of Atlanta, GA and Stanley R. Johnson and his wife Rebecca of North Augusta, SC; one sister, Catherine Keller of North Augusta, SC; and 2 grandchildren, William Deven Johnson and Lauren Colleen Johnson.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home this afternoon, Sunday, August 24, 2014 from 3 until 5 PM and will be at the residence of Stanley & Rebecca Johnson, 435 Rivernorth Drive, North Augusta, SC 29841.
Memorials may be made to Big Stevens Creek Baptist Church Building Fund, 1850 W. Martintown Road, North Augusta, SC 29860.
