Eugene "Gene" Schmidt(1925 - 2013)

Mr. Eugene "Gene" Schmidt passed away at his home on Saturday, February 23, 2013. Gene was born October 4, 1925 in Brush, Colorado and lived in Akron, Colorado until he joined the U.S. Coast Guard on June 6, 1943, and was honorably discharged on May 21, 1946. He also served as a Navy reservist for several years. He attended Colorado State University and on May 15, 1949 he married Betty Louise Roach. They lived in Akron while he worked for Dansdill Lumber Co. Gene began working for Mountain Bell Telephone Company on March 16, 1953. After working with the telephone company in Greeley and Sterling, CO, he was transferred to Loveland in 1956. As a Central Office Technician, he was instrumental in installing Loveland's emergency 911 service. After more than 33 years, Gene retired from the telephone company on March 31, 1986. Gene worked as a courier for Home State Bank until 2004.

Gene was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Loveland and a Master Mason for 61 years with the Akron, Colorado Masonic Lodge.

He is survived by his children Mrs. Mary (Del) Leach of Lynchburg, VA; Mrs. Gayle (Joe) Begin of Dillon, MT; Mr. Randy (Judy) Schmidt of Loveland, CO; three granddaughters, Mrs. Sarah (Trent) Gibson; Mrs. Rebecca (Ryan) Campbell of Boise, ID; Monica (Travis) Daley; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by Betty Schmidt, his wife of 58 years and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. H.H. (Marie) Schmidt.

Funeral Service will be held 11:00am on Thursday, February 28, 2013 at Allnutt Funeral Chapel. Interment at Resthaven Memory Gardens followed by a gathering back at the Allnutt Reception Center.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Akron Colorado Masonic Lodge A.M. or in care of Allnutt Funeral Services, 2100 N. Lincoln Ave. Loveland, CO 80538.
