Gerald Galen Campbell was born August 9, 1918; the third child of Charles Bert and Dora S (Stern) Campbell. He was born on his parents' homestead southeast of Thurman, Colorado in southern Washington County. He passed away at his brother, Harold's home, in Colorado Springs, Colorado on January 15, 2014.
Gerald was a life long resident of the Thurman and Anton areas. He went to school at the Thurman School with one year of high school at Sunny Slope. From there, when not needed at home, he was out working for whomever needed help with anything from planting to picking corn.
From 1940 into the 1950's, Gerald did trucking; hauling whatever needed moved from "here to there." When his truck wore out, he "made do" with whatever jobs came around; working for and helping other folks, while helping to take care of the home front.
What Gerald really enjoyed was working with his horses. They kept him active up to the last month of his life. He also appreciated reading and studying his Bible.
Gerald was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters; Eva Alice (in infancy) and Fae Dine. He is survived by three brothers; Warren of Clovis, New Mexico, Ray of the Anton, Colorado area and Harold of Colorado Springs, Colorado; two sisters, Elsie Kessinger and Helen Frick of Akron; 19 nephews and nieces; several cousins and other relatives.
At a future date, sometime in the spring, a memorial service will be held.
