Alice Jean (Delaney) Vaughn Obituary
Alice Jean Delaney Vaughn was born during a blizzard in Akron, CO on Nov. 7, 1929, to Frank and Alice (Cherry) Delaney. She died peacefully on a beautiful spring day at the age of 86 after a lengthy illness at the Washington County Nursing home.
Alice attended Akron schools, and then married Roy E. Vaughn on June 30, 1943. Together, they bought a farm seven miles east of Anton. Thirteen children were born to this union. Alice worked sun-up to sun-down on the farm, was very involved in her children's many school events, usually had sewing, crocheting and knitting projects at her side, and grew a huge garden for canning. She was a leader of CSU's 4-H program in southern Washington County for many years.
After her children were grown, she hosted many family gatherings. She was an active volunteer and supporter of her community and served as a member of several rural agency boards, including the Washington County Nursing Home, Northeast Colorado Association of Transportation, and Anton Food Cooperative. She lived most of her life in Washington County, except for a stay in Tucson, AZ, primarily due to health issues.
Alice was preceded in death by her husband, Roy, sons Duane and Donald and Eldon, infant daughters Caroline Fern and Lea Annette, her parents, and two brothers Frank and John Delaney.
Survivors are children Shirley Brandt, Virginia (Jerry) Allen, John (Juanita) Vaughn, Merna Vaughn, Liz (Patrick) Williams, Darlene (Jim) Doane, Alvin Vaughn, and Penny Vaughn (LeRoy Bishop); 19 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.
Friends who wish may make contributions to the Washington County Nursing Home, Green House Project.
The funeral service was held at 10:30 a.m., on Monday, June 6, at the Akron Methodist Church. Interment followed at the Akron Cemetery.
