Ann Marie (Thornton) Smith Obituary
Ann Marie Smith was born on February 4, 1926 in Buffalo Gap, Texas to George and Victoria Thornton. She went home on March 1, 2013 from Sterling, Colorado. Her early childhood was spent in Abilene, Texas with her parents and siblings where she enjoyed fishing with her mother Victoria and spending time with family. Ann met and married Glenn Hansen in 1943 while he was stationed at the army base in Taylor County Texas prior to his deployment during World War II. To this union, two children were born Barbara Ann and Stephen Glenn. After the war, the family moved to Wray, Colorado where they resided until 1956. They relocated to Sterling, Colorado living there for nine years prior to their separation. In 1969, Ann met and married the love of her life Warren T. Smith. They spent many happy years together traveling, golfing, dancing, and spending time with family and friends. Ann especially enjoyed working in her garden and was proud of her art work.
Ann is preceded in death by her parents, one brother and two sisters, and her loving husband Warren. She is survived by her daughter, Barbara and husband Charles Johnson of Akron, CO, son Stephen Hansen and wife Debbie of Florence, AZ; Dick Smith and wife Dianna of Sterling; Sharon Allen and husband Jim of Sterling; grandchildren Teresa Traxler and husband Corey of Akron, CO, Gordon Johnson of Brighton, CO, Connor Hansen of Golden, CO, Debbi Smith of Longmont, CO, Andi Smith of Salt Lake, UT, Craig Smith of Denver, CO, Dusty Allen and wife Chrissy of Loveland, CO, and Brady Allen of New York City, NY; and eight great-grandchildren, Kaylee & Justin Traxler, Kendra & Koral Johnson, Alexandra & Christiana Smith, and Logan & Parker Allen.
A Memorial service was held at Chaney-Reager Funeral Home on Tuesday, March 5th at 1:30 p.m., with a family burial immediately following. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to the Akron School Graduation Fund, 600 Elm Street, Akron, Colorado.
