Earl Dean Ison Obituary
Earl Dean Ison of Platner passed away Monday, June 27th, 2016 at Akron Nursing Home. Earl Dean Ison was born on September 13, 1930, to Charles Hurbert Ison and Edna Muriel Dawson in the town of Platner, Colorado. He was the ninth child of twelve children born to the couple. Dean, as most people called him, attended Platner Elementary School and continued his education in high school in Akron, Colorado. He took a year off of high school to lend his helpful hand to the family gas station. He then went back to receive his diploma in 1950.
Dean married Shirley Lea Bradney on December 5th, 1953. To this union four children were born: Randy Ison and wife Susan of Platner, Sandy Cunningham and husband Scott of Yuma, Danny Ison and wife Holli Ison of Otis and Tammy Jackson and husband Tom of Joes.
The young couple made their home in the Platner area where Dean grew his family business. He spent his time driving the fuel truck with Shirley by his side. Dean always put his family first and spent most of his life caring for his four children and later on his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Dean was a devoted husband and father and was seen as the anchor of the family. When he wasn't driving the fuel truck or spending time with his family he enjoyed days on the golf course, gambling in Blackhawk, traveling with Shirley and attending his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren's school events. Dean was a member of the Elks Club. He was honored with 50 years of membership and gained countless friendships through his duration with the organization. Dean never met a stranger, as he always had a joke or a story to tell.
A neighbor recently described Dean as a good friend, a businessman and a true "Platner Boy". Dean was iconic to the small community.
Dean is preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Edna Ison; his wife, Shirley Ison; his brothers, Charles (Chuck), Bernard (Sparky), Frank, and Ronald Ison; his sisters, Ruby Routh, Ruth Fiechter, Eva Plant, and Phyllis Ison.
Left to celebrate his life are his children, Randy Ison and wife Susan, Danny Ison and wife Holli, Sandy Cunningham and husband Scott, Tammy Jackson and husband Tom; grandchildren, Michael Ison and wife Amy, Lindsay Stivers and husband Aaron, Jacob Cunningham and wife Amy, Brian Cunningham, Danielle Woods and husband Austin, Kelcey Kuntz and husband Karson, Jordan and Taylor Jackson, and Kaleb Ison; great-grandchildren, Grace, Emma and Ethan Ison, Trevor and Drew Cunningham, Hailey and Mitchell Stivers, and Madsion and Bryson Woods; and his sisters, Irene Hendrickson, Rose Vogelpohl, Joanne Freytag; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Saturday July 2nd, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Otis, Colorado, with Randy Feather officiating the ceremony, and Deb Kahrs as the pianist and soloist who sang, "On The Wings of a Dove" and "The Lords Prayer".
Interment was held at the Otis Cemetery with Bowin Funeral Home arranging the services. Memorial donations in Dean's name may be made to the Otis Volunteer Fire Department's Christmas Candy Fund and the Washington County Golf Course.
