Ethel Hixson Obituary
A celebration of life for longtime Lamar resident, Ethel Hixson will be held at 2:00PM on Friday, October 16, 2015 at the Peacock Family Chapel with Ian Blacker of the Lamar Christian Church officiating. Interment will follow at Fairmount Cemetery.

Visitation for Ethel will be held on Thursday, October 15, 2015 from 3:00PM to 7:00PM at the Peacock Family Chapel.

Ethel was born on May 8, 1936 at May Valley, Colorado to Ernest J. and Retta Alice (James) Eddleman and departed this human life, Monday, October 12, 2015 at Lamar Estates with her family by her side at the age of 79.

Ethel was the youngest of her three other siblings; Carol (Eddleman) Schou, Dick Eddleman, and Jack Eddleman.

Prior to her Senior year at Lamar High School, Ethel married Larry Hixson, August 02, 1953. Upon Larry's returning from the Army after serving two years in Korea, Ethel and Larry then began working for her father, Ernest Eddleman, and subsequently bought farm and ranch property south of Lamar.
To this union was born four children, Charolyn, Jillane, Ron, and Eric. Ethel was always active in working with her husband … raising wheat, cattle, & "kids". From running tractors, combines, grain trucks, branding cattle, and riding pasture … while simultaneously raising four kids … running them to Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, 4-H, square dancing, sports, and a wide variety of activities.
After the death of her husband in 1998, Ethel "plowed on" with the family farm until 2004, when a spine tumor caused her to be confined to a wheelchair. Shortly thereafter, she became a resident of Juniper Village (2006). While striving to regain mobility for many years, she remained actively involved with her kids, grandkids, and HIXSON FARMS now operated by her children; Ron, Eric, and Jillane.
Ethel was active in the Lamar community donating many hours to the Vaqueros Saddle Club, Lamar Library, Prowers County Democrats, Welcome Center, and the Elks Club.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Larry Hixson; her parents; siblings, Dick Eddleman; Carol Shou and Jack Eddleman.

Ethel is survived by her children, Charolyn (Dave) Hudson ; Jillane (Dave) Hixson-Tzilkowski, Ron Hixson and Eric (Lynette) Hixson and five grandchildren, Ryan Edwards; Hailey Edwards; Erica Hixson; Jonathan Hixson and Justin Hixson.

Memorial donations can be made to Sage Brush Meadows (a local committee dedicated to establishing a new "not-for-profit" nursing home in the Lamar area), c/o of the Peacock Funeral Home.

Services are under the direction of the Peacock Family.
