George Leonard Buckton Obituary
George Leonard Buckton was born May 16, 1942, in Niagara Falls, NY to George Rodolph and Vera Batey Brown Buckton. The family moved to Ashland, KY in 1952. George attended grade school and some junior high scool; and in 1959, the family moved to South Charleston, WV. George graduated from South Charleston High School and went on to college in Charleston and then worked for Charleston General Hospital and then the State Department of Unemployment. As his mother's and father's health declined, he took care of them until their death. Then in 1995, George moved to Akron to be near his sister, Barb. George belonged to the United Methodist Church in Akron and, as a resident at Pioneer Haven, he volunteered taking residents to the doctor or other appointments and groceries. He also volunteered at the Akrod Library sorting books for the book sale, until his health failed. He then moved into Washington County Nursing Home and then the Green House, until his death on October 27, 2016.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Randlyn Jean Buckton.
Those left to mourn are sister Barb andaughter Elliemae Wilkd husband, Carl Lindahl; nephew Tim Lindahl and wife Sarah and children, Elizabeth, Caroline, Joy and Jason; Kristina Vrooman and husband Lee and children Justin, Allison and Megan; and nephew David Lindahl and wife Lynn and children Alexander, Micah, Zachary and Ethan; Brother Ron and wife, Karen; nephew Aaron Buckton and wife Lindsey and children Keria, Alexandra and Gwyenneth; and niece Sarah Roberts and daughter, Elliemae Wild.
As per George's request, his ashed will be returned to WV to be buries with his father, mother and sister.
Services were held at Green House Southeast Tan Building on Wednesday, November 2, 2016 at 3:00 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the Washington County Green House Homes or to the Akron Public Library.
