Howard Rickey ""Rick"" Eskew Obituary
Howard Rickey Eskew, known as Rick, was born in Akron, CO on May 11th, 1954 to Melvin Raymond and Ina Faye Eskew.  Rick passed away Sunday, December 6th, 2015 at 61 years of age, while doing what he loved, hunting.
While growing up in Akron with seven brothers and two sisters, he started working at an early age delivering the newspaper, shining shoes at the pool hall and shucking feed with his family.  Upon graduation from Akron High School, Rick worked for local farmers before moving to Denver to work with his brother in construction and hanging drywall.  After deciding city life was not for him, he moved back to Akron and started working for Y-W Electric, where he held many positions over 40 years including hotline crew, underground crew, Otis area lineman and then Line Superintendent.
While working the blizzard of 1977 in Wray, Rick met Beverlee Jean Stone, also known as Bubs, and they were later married on July 22nd 1978.  While living in Akron they had two children, Chandler Eugene and Stoney Raye.  The family later moved to Otis in the summer of 1988.
Rick was always generous in devoting his time to friends, family and the community.  He coached youth wrestling, little league baseball and baseball at Otis High School.  Rick supported the community by joining the Otis Volunteer Fire Department, helped with community improvements including the Otis roadside park, served on the GOCO grant committee which led the construction of the Otis baseball field, and was always willing to help Bubs in painting the bulldogs at Otis High School, assisting the Washington County fair horse show, and later on with her parents.  As an active member with the 1st Presbyterian Church, he enjoyed working on the church, doing his bible studies and loved his church family.
Rick loved sports, especially his Broncos, was always active by playing recreational softball and volleyball for years with family and friends.  He loved to cook and grill, celebrating 4th of July and having family BBQs always made him happy.  Rick was a mister fix-it, and could tackle any project, whether it was around the house or for someone else.  Most of all, he was an avid outdoorsman with a passion for hunting and fishing with his son, brothers, cousins, nephews and friends.
Rick was preceded in death by his father Melvin, mother Ina Faye, brother Roger, brother Elmer, sister in law Charlotte, and nephews Christopher and Jason O'Connor.
He is survived by his wife Bub's, son Chandler and daughter Stoney, his brothers Steve, Mike, Ron, Roy, Ben, sisters Peggy O'Connor and Cindy Thompson, along with numerous nephews and nieces.
Rick was an honest, positive, magnetic person and loved to spread joy and happiness to all he came across; seemed as though he would talk with everyone, even if he didn't know you.  He especially loved to give everyone a hard time, make them smile and would always follow with his genuine smirk.
He was a loving husband, father, and friend and will be greatly missed.  We were greatly blessed.
A memorial service was held Thursday, December 10, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of Otis. Memorial donations may be made to the church.
