Ila Maxine (Kelso) Bertelsen Obituary
Ila Maxine Bertelsen, 88 of Akron, passed away on October 28, 2014 at
the Northern Colorado Rehabilitation Hospital in Johnstown. Ila was
born September 16, 1926 in Council Bluffs, Iowa to Ernest and Blanche
(Thompson) Kelso. After high school, she attended beautician school.
After the death of her first husband Jim Prentice, Ila married Les
Bertelsen on February 1, 1962. She ran a restaurant in Council
Bluffs, Iowa, until she and Les were married. After getting married,
she and Les farmed until 1975, when Les became involved in the cattle
business. In 1978 they moved to Akron, CO.
Les and Ila adopted two children, Sheila in 1962, and Michael in 1966.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband Les; her brother
Arnold Kelso; and her sisters Juanita, Genevieve, Norma, and Barbara.
She is survived by daughter Sheila and husband Bernard of Ottumwa,
Iowa; son Michael Bertelsen of Akron, Colorado; grandchildren Bridget
Martin, Trevor Bertelsen, Bethany Stafford, Heather Noel, Halie Cone,
and Harmony Noel. She is also survived by numerous
great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends.
A funeral service was held Friday, October 31, 2014 at the First
Presbyterian Church of Akron. Interment followed at the Akron
Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the First Presbyterian
Church of Akron.
