James Ray ""Jim"" Lowry JR. Obituary
James "Jim" Ray Lowry, Jr. passed away Saturday, December 31, 2016 at his home on the family homestead near Akron, Colorado. Jim was 70 years old.
A celebration of life service was held at 11 to 1 p.m., Wednesday, January 11, 2017 at the Vets Club at 275 East First Street, Akron, Colorado.
Jim was born February 16, 1946 in Sterling, Colorado to James Ray "Jim" and Velma "Peggy" Perkins.
Jim attended and graduated from Akron High School in 1964. Jim particularly liked football and lettered three years in that sport. After graduation, he volunteered for military service, becoming an Army Para Trooper serving in Viet Nam. He was injured in December 1966, and later was given an Honorable Discharge and awarded three Purple Hearts.
After his discharge, Jim studied accounting at Metropolitan State College, but gave that up after a year to start a construction business in Granby, Colorado. Jim lived and worked there until 1977 when he opted for a warmer climate and moved to Hawaii. Jim returned to Washington County and the Family Homestead in 1980 and remained there until his death. Jim was a ravenous reader and read anything he could get his hands on but enjoyed Tom Clancy novels the best.
Jim is survived by his daughter, Kathleen (K.T.) and her husband Josh Rickett, and granddaughter, DeAnna Rickett of Bozeman, Montana; K.T. is the only daughter from his marriage to Patricia O'Neil, from 1968 to 1976. Other survivors are his brother John and his wife Gail Lowry in Akron; his sisters Bobbi Lowry (Bruce Salter) of Denver and Barbara (Nat) Colston of Laguna Niguel, California. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Peggy Lowry.
