Joe Allen McCracken Obituary
Joe Allen McCracken, 69, of Akron passed away at his home on Tuesday, June 6, 2017.
Joe was born on July 16, 1947 in Brush, CO to Frank and Elsie (Fredericksen) McCracken. He was the fourth of 11 children. He grew up on a farm in the Lindon area and attended the Woodlin School, graduating with the Class of 1965.
After graduating high school, Joe attended Northeastern Junior College in Sterling, CO and received his Associates in Applied Science degree in Agri-Business in 1969. He used his degree by working in Sharon Springs, Kansas, as well as Holyoke and Sterling, in the grain and fertilizer business for a few years.
His love of farming took him back to his roots in the Lindon area where he and his brothers farmed their grandparents land – Jim and Minnie Fredericksen. In 1972, the McCracken brothers bought this land and continued to farm for a number of years.
Eventually, Joe moved to Akron where he worked at Hall Grain Company and also carried the mail on the Burdette Route part time until his health declined. Joe loved the outdoors where you could find him mowing a lawn, working in his garage or planting his garden. He loved to build things with his hands and was always willing to help anyone in need.
Joe was a member of the Akron Foursquare Church and was baptized on May 6, 2007. He loved being a part of the church family and was involved in many church functions as a willing volunteer for numerous activities. He loved sports and followed the Broncos, Rockies and our local high school teams. He would often listen to high school games on Friday nights the old-fashioned way - on the radio and he could tell you the score of each of these games the next day. A highlight of his life was actually getting to go to a Colorado Rockies game. He loved all kinds of music and had a large collection of records and CD's, as well as movies.
Joe was never married and although he had no children of his own, he enjoyed spending time with his numerous nephews and nieces and following their activities.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Elsie McCracken; two brothers, Jerry McCracken and Jay McCracken; and one niece, Michele Mari.
He is survived by his siblings, six sisters and two brothers, Jan (Bill) Dorrenbacher, Jim (Jan) McCracken of Akron, Joyce (Lenard) Mari of Fleming, CO, Frank McCracken of Springfield, CO, Jean (Rick) Glosson, Julie (Rocky) Kraich , Jacquie (Tom) Reid of Akron, Justina (Dennis) Anderson of Loveland, CO; and one sister-in-law, Eileen (Jay) McCracken of Sterling. He is also survived by 24 nephews and nieces and numerous great nephews and nieces. He will be missed by all of his family and friends.
Funeral services were held on Friday, June 9th, 2017 at the Akron Foursquare Church with Pastor Mike Kinney officiating. Interment followed at the Akron cemetery.
Memorials in his memory may be made to the Akron Foursquare Church, "Operation Christm
