Joe N. Hudson Obituary
Joe N. Hudson, 96 of Platner, died on May 12, 2013 at the Devonshire Acres in Sterling, Colorado.
Joe was born at Cheyenne Wells, CO on January 3, 1917 to L.V. and Bessie Hudson. He lived in the Cheyenne Wells area, attended school there, and worked as a mechanic. He graduated from South Denver High School and worked with his future brother-in-law, Herman Sweeney, as an ambulance driver. After attending mechanic school, he returned to Cheyenne Wells where he worked as a mechanic.
As a result of being acquainted with Herman, he met his wife, Ida Sweeney. They married on November 7, 1936. Two children were born to them; Milton, born on March 4, 1938, and Joanella, born on May 4, 1940. The family moved to California in 1939 where Joe was employed at Lockheed Aircraft, where he worked assembly on P-38 Aircraft. Joe was instrumental in developing an assembly line that sped up the process of getting these magnificent planes in the air.
After World War II, the family moved to a farm/ranch northwest of Cheyenne Wells. This endeavor went well until the drought and dust bowl of the 1950's, and facing the fact of having no feed or pasture for the cattle, he decided to sell the operation.
1955, Joe and Harold Wales started a grain business at Platner, CO. The business grew to include many customers in the Logan and Washington County area. The business was sold in 1975, so Joe and Ida retired and traveled to numerous locations in the United States.
He started farming again in the Platner area in 1979 and has remained active with that. He has also continued to live in Platner, in the home built in 1961.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, wife Ida, and daughter Joanella.
Survivors are his son Milton and wife Betty of Canyon, TX; 4 grandchildren, Mike Hudson of Port Orchard, WA, Peggy Swartz and husband Mike of Fort Collins, CO, Rod Hudson of Fort Worth, TX, and Sandy Kindred and husband Keith of Greeley, CO. He is also survived by 6 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held Friday, May 24, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Otis, Colorado. Interment will occur at the Otis Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the St. Paul Lutheran Church.
