Kenneth Forrest Bradney Obituary
Kenneth Forrest Bradney, 90, of Akron, CO, went to be with the Lord, Thursday, August 25, 2016 in Akron, CO. He was born on April 29, 1926 in Hansen, KS. He was the oldest of five children born to Jonas Newton Bradney and Addie Mae (Friend) Bradney.  Kenneth moved from Kansas when he was four years old and has called Colorado home ever since. He attended school at High Prairie where he was the only boy in his class. Kenneth skipped a grade to be able to graduate early in 1943.   After graduating, Kenneth served in the US Navy from 1943-1945 during World War II. Upon entering the Navy, Kenneth was issued a birth certifcate which switched his birth name of Forrest Kenneth to Kenneth Forrest Bradney. After arriving back in Colorado from the Navy, Kenneth worked as an Assessor for Washington County.

On September 17, 1950, Kenneth was united in marriage to the love of his life, Ruth Aldean (Howell) Bradney in Akron, CO, where they spent their entire life building a farm and ranch together and raising their family. They moved to their present home in 1956. To this union were born three daughters and a son, Debra, Julie, Mark and Beverly. Even as Aldean became sick with Alzheimer's disease, Kenneth did not leave her side. They displayed true love and set amazing examples for their family.

Kenneth has served as an Elder for the First Presbyterian Church, as a Board member of the Washington Investment Company, and as a Board member for the Y-W Electric Company in Akron. Kenneth often told the story of when he was younger and his family could not afford oranges, but the neighbors could. It motivated him to become a hardworking and successful farmer and cattle rancher, and a lover of oranges. Kenneth had a partnership with his son, Mark, called Bar P Land and Cattle Company, which they operated together since 1991. As Kenneth's children moved out and started their own families, he enjoyed traveling with his wife and restoring old tractors all while still taking part in all the farm and ranch activities.  John Deere tractors were always his favorite. Kenneth loved spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren when he was not busy preparing fields of wheat, millet and corn. He used to make vanilla ice cream in a hand crank ice cream maker and chopped up ice in a gunny-sack. The older grandchildren were put to work cranking the ice cream. He was a kind man and always thought about others first. He was a gentleman at heart, who never wore a hat at the dinner table and always opened the doors for others.

Kenneth is survived by his four children, Debra Diane Gilbert (Marvin) of Ft. Lupton, CO, Julie Dawn Brown (Leo) of Parker, CO, Mark Troy Bradney (Julie) of Akron, CO, Beverly Kayle Knutzen (Bruce) of Akron, CO.; his 7 grandchildren, Christopher Kenneth Gilbert (Alexandria) of Longmont, CO, Andrew Jonathan Gilbert of Mead, CO, Quentin Troy Brown (Kristen) of Broomfield, CO, Loni Tyanna Revercomb (Matthew) of Aurora, CO, Emerald Lea Barrington (Michael) of Bradley, OK, Derek Wesley Knutzen of Akron, CO and Darin Wade Knutzen of Akron, CO.; and his 9 great-grandchildren, Sophia and Chloe Gilbert, Troy and Addie Mae Brown, Garrett, Greyson, and Kynleigh Revercomb, and Jade and Carter Barrington.  He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Aldean, his parents, his siblings, and his grandson Colin Thomas Bradney.
Services were held August 30, 2016 at 10:00am at the Presbyterian Church of Akron. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to the Presbyterian Church of Akron or Hospice of the Plains.
