Kristin Marie Weninger Obituary
Kristin Marie Weninger was born into this world on Sept. 11, 1981 at the Washington County Hospital in Akron, CO.
She was the eldest of two children to Leon and Kim Weninger and lived her childhood on their farm in northeastern Colorado with her brother, Casey, and her parents, and departed life on earth March 20, 2016 at Abrazo Scottsdale Campus Hospital in Phoenix, AZ from complications of asthma.
As a child, Kristin enjoyed life as a farm girl, complete with daily chores to do every day, to feeding and caring for animals, to doing housework and farm jobs as well. She was active in 4-H showing animals and helped with farming operations alongside her dad and brother during summer break. Kristin was expected to work as a tractor and grain cart driver during the summer and fall harvest of wheat and millet and became a valued expert in these jobs. Whenever possible, Kristin would be found doing some crafting project. From painting in mixed media to jewelry, her passion was to create beautiful things. In high school, she won judge's choice at a local college in their annual art exhibit with an acrylic piece, beating out 19 other schools for top honors. Kristin graduated from the Akron school and went on to attend UNC in Greeley, CO, studying liberal arts.
When her brother left Akron to attend college in Phoenix to go to a trade school, she soon followed. Casey graduated from MMI and eventually came home, but Kristin found that the warm climate of Arizona suited her health more than Colorado's and stayed on until her death.
She worked in the service industry, with jewelry design being her true calling. Many people wear her original works today, with her specialty of El Dia de los Muertos bracelets and necklaces being a big part of her work. She also studies glass blowing, metal work and stained glass while living in the Phoenix area.
Kristin had a legion of friends and all that knew her were aware of her small statue. But one thing they also knew if they were around her was her spunk and tenacity. She was, as her mother said, "nothing but pride, hair and eyeballs." Her toughness served her well during the times she fought illness and issues with asthma. Her spirit of individualism was best shown in not only her eclectic artistic work, but her bright colored hair and unique clothing that was her signature look. Much like her beloved cactus that bloomed fleetingly in the AZ desert, she too was prickly, beautiful and bright as any flower on God's earth. Many people made their way in and out of her life, and she had many admirers and followers in her repertoire of friends and family during her short life and she will be greatly missed by all who loved her.
Kristin is preceded in death by grandparents, Roman and Madeliene Weninger and Ronald and Margie Spradling; as well as cousin, Cullen Glosson; aunt, Kathleen Sherman; and paternal great-grandparents, Homer and Marie Spradling.
She leaves with her passing father, Leon; mother, Kim; and only sibling, Casey; sister-in-law, Danielle; and one nephew, Roland. She had many aunts and uncles, as well as a great many cousins and other relatives who will miss her bright smile and generous spirit.
A rosary was held Monday, March 28, 2016 at the St. Joseph Catholic Church of Akron. Mass of Christian Burial was held the following morning. Interment was at the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
