Lila Ellen (Spear) Stafford Obituary
Lila was born February 23, 1930 near Akron, Colorado to John and Stella (Pickett) Spear. She spent her childhood in the Akron area and graduated from Akron High School in 1947. On August 21, 1948 Lila married the love of her life Edward Stafford. They moved to California where Eddie worked for the railroad. To this union six children were born: William (Bill), Terry, Lyle, Beverly, Wally and Nancy. They lived in both Barstow and Needles, CA numerous times moving as the railroad required as well as Blythe, CA and Mojave Valley, AZ. The family enjoyed exploring the desert and swimming in the Colorado River. In 1966 Eddie lost his life in a farming accident. Lila decided in 1967 to pack up everything and move her family to Commerce City, Colorado to be near her family. She purchased a home there and went to work for Adams County 14 School District as a cook. She became a head baker and later head cook at Rose Hill Elementary School. In the early 90's Lila retired to spend more time with her children and grandchildren. Lila went to be with the Lord May 31, 2013 after a lengthy illness. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and soul mate Eddie, son Wally, brothers Gerald, Orman and Marvin, sisters Blanche, Wilma and Koleta. Left to celebrate her life are Bill Stafford and wife Bev of Akron, CO, Terry Stafford of Thornton, CO, Lyle Stafford and wife Carol of Willard, CO, Beverly Garner and husband Rich of Commerce City, CO, Nancy Wagner and husband Larry of Laporte, CO, sister Dorothy Lambert of Keenesburg, CO, brother Kelsey and wife Lorraine of Commerce City, CO, sister in law Gladys Spear of Broomfield, CO, 11 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and many, many nieces and nephews.
A Funeral service was held Tuesday, June 4, 2013 at the Foursquare Church of Akron. Interment followed at Akron Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the c/o Bowin Funeral Home, PO Box 576 Akron, CO 80720.
