Marijane (Yackle) Keim Obituary
Marijane Yackle Keim was born in Akron, January 27, 1925 and passed away on Friday, May 2, 2014. She was the youngest child of Christian Yackle and Audrian Noland Yackle. As a child, she was remembered as a shadow following her Dad around at public sales, farm sales or from farm to farm as he was buying or selling cattle or hogs. Until she started school and during her summer vacations, she went everywhere with him.
She graduated from high school in 1943 and wasn't quite ready to quit school, but didn't have funds for college, so she took a post graduate course that fall in bookkeeping. Since her older brothers, Vernon and Delman Yackle, were school teachers, she decided in the summer of 1944 to try her hand at teaching. During the war, teachers were scarce and if you passed a test you could get an emergency teacher's certificate. One year of teaching proved that it not her vocation! On September 1, 1945, she began working at the Washington County Treasurer's Office as a Deputy Treasurer for her brother, Delman, who was County Treasurer at that time. When Harold Sisson was elected County Treasurer in 1946, Marijane stayed on as his first Deputy and Bookkeeper. She was elected as the County Treasurer in 1978, when Harold retired. Marijane worked a total of 48 years at the Treasurer's office, retiring in 1993.
On July 14, 1946, Marijane married Kenneth Keim. In March of 1950, Kenn and Marijane built a home on 4th Street in Akron and she resided there until three years ago, when ill health forced her to move into the nursing home.
Although Kenn and Marijane had no children of their own, they thought the world of their nieces and nephews and treasured the holidays and special occasions spent with them. That love carried over to the great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews. And, when the great-great-great nieces and nephews arrived, she was just as excited and proud. She loved being around the little ones.
Marijane was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Akron. She volunteered at the Washington County Museum for many years and was also active in the Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Kenn; her parents, Chris and Audrian Yackle; her brothers, Delman and Vernon Yackle; and her sister, Lorene Yackle Wagner. She leaves to mourn her passing many nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church in Akron or the Washington County Museum in care of Bowin Funeral Home.
