Nora Kathleen (Rhoads) Mock Obituary
Brighton, Colorado resident and former Goodland, Kansas resident Nora Kathleen (Rhoads) Mock, 87, passed away on Tuesday, January 31, 2017 at her home in Brighton surrounded by her family.
Nora was born on June 9, 1929 on the family farm, 17 miles northeast of Goodland, to Edwin A. and Lillie Anna (Melstrom) Rhoads. She had two half-sisters and was the fifth of seven more children. She attended elementary school at Shermanville School where her half-sister Juanita was her teacher in a one room school house, 17 miles northeast of Goodland. She graduated from Sherman County High school in 1946. She then went on and attended one year of college at Barnes Business College in Denver.
In 1952, Nora married William A. Mock at the Warren United Methodist Church in Denver. To this union, two daughters, Kathleen and Debra were born. Nora worked for several years before and early in her marriage as a secretary but she considered her most important role was always as a Wife and Mother. She was a past member of the Warren United Methodist Church in Denver.
Preceding Nora in death were her parents, infant twin boys, sister Ethel Russell, two half-sisters Adelaide Rockwell and Juanita Shahan, and four brother-in-law's; Harry McCall, Roy Russell Jr., Darwyn "Buck" Venden and Dale Stephens.
She is survived by her loving husband William "Bill" of 64 years, two daughters; Kathy Hellyer of Akron, Colorado and Debbie Oberhausen of Denver, Colorado, three sisters; Lucille McCall and Iva Lee Stephens, both of Goodland, Kansas, and Doris Venden of Loveland, Colorado, three grandchildren; Hallie Kraich, Kara Kraich, and Samantha Oberhausen, one great grandchild Chloe Thomas, and a sister-in-law Patty Mock of Mt. Vernon, Washington. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
Funeral services for Nora will be held on Saturday, February 4, 2017 at 3:00 PM MT at the First Christian Church in Goodland with Pastor Doug Amend officiating. Burial will follow in the Goodland Cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Friday, February 3, 2017 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at the Koons-Russell Funeral Home in Goodland.
Memorials are designated to Boys Town and may be left at the service or mailed to Koons-Russell Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St., Goodland, KS 67735.
