1929 - 2013 Obituary Condolences
Robert Lee Ballard died on March 30, 2013 at Clara Barton Hospital in Hoisington, Kansas. Robert was born on May 11, 1929 to Arlie Z. and Blanche Lee (Shell) Ballard in Akron, Colorado. He graduated from Akron High School. Ballard was a United States Navy veteran and served in the Korean Conflict.
On August 16, 1950, he married Virginia McEwen in Territorial, Hawaii. When they came back to the United States, Ballard worked as a seismographer in the oil fields until he retired. The family moved to Hays, Kansas and in 1965 moved to Hoisington, Kansas.
Robert attended Trinity United Methodist Church in Great Bend, Kansas. He enjoyed cars and spending time with his grandchildren. He was also a fan of college football, the Kansas City Chiefs and NASCAR.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Virginia; four daughters; Barbara Tournear (Ron); Debra Giebler (Steve) and Linda Pringle (Steve), all of Great Bend, Kansas and Patricia Ballard of Hoisington, Kansas; grandchildren; Dana Baxter (Mike) of Farmington, Maine; Marcia Dietz (Mike) of Great Bend, Kansas; Ann Haase (Wyatt) of Fairway, Kansas; Captain Andrew Giebler, United State Air Force, Washington, D. C.; Amie Scheuerman (Brandon) of Ellinwood, Kansas; Jackie Pringle of Lawrence, Kansas; and Kevin Pringle of Lawrence, Kansas; and four great grandchildren; Alexandra Baxter, Danielle Baxter, Hunter Baxter and Sawyer Haase.
He was preceded in death by four brothers; Malachi, Frank, William and Albert and three sisters; Edith Bailey, Betty Robertson and Beatrice Shook; and by his mother and father.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 8 at 10:00 a.m. at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home in Hoisington, Kansas. Pastor Jeffrey Slater will officiate at the services. A private family interment will be held at Hoisington Cemetery in Hoisington, Kansas.
