1935 - 2013 | Obituary Condolences
Robert Lee "Bob" Elliott Obituary
Robert L. Elliott, 78, of Akron, passed away Monday, Sept. 23, 2013, at the Washington County Nursing Home.
Bob was born in Akron on September 19, 1935, the youngest of seven children, to Alvis and Ada Elliott. He attended Akron School. In January of 1956, Bob joined the United States Navy and served his
country for the next six years, being discharged on January 24, 1962. Bob came back to Akron and married Janice Twiss on October 6, 1963 and was blessed with two sons, Mike and Rick.
Bob worked for the Washington County Hospital for 18 years and the Town of Akron for 14 years, retiring in September of 1997. Following his retirement, Bob drove the County Express Bus for 11 years. Bob had
a special bond with the people he would drive around on the bus. He was always cracking jokes and keeping them laughing. He really missed them after he had to quit driving, due to poor health. You could
always find Bob at Cornerstone for morning coffee (and most afternoons) teasing all the girls that would come in. Waitresses in town all knew Bob by name and had a special rapport with him. Bob was an avid sports fan, not missing an Akron football or basketball game if at all possible. As a football fan, Bob ran the
chains and down marker for Akron's football games for many years. Bob was a member of the Akron Foursquare Church, Akron Booster Club, Akron Lions Cub, Akron Elks Club, VFW and American Legion. He took great pride in marching in parades with the Color Guard.
On November 19, 1982, Bob began his life with Zadine Vaughn. Together they enjoyed 32 years of happiness, love and devotion to each other. They spent many happy days going camping, with their favorite trips
being taken in the mountains. Bob loved riding his motorcycle and taking the boat out fishing. Bob thoroughly enjoyed watching the Broncos and Akron Rams, meeting friends of all ages at the coffee shop and especially family get-togethers.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, six brothers-in-law and one brother.
Bob is loved and will be missed by his wife, Zadine; sons, Mike (Bev) Elliott of Garland, Texas, and Rick (Jan) Elliott of Imperial, Neb.; Terry (Jamie) Noel of Denver, and Connie (Marshall) Squires of Goodland, Kan.; his sisters, Eldora Sherman of Denver and Helen Fox of Akron; 11 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
A funeral service will be held Friday, September 27, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at the Foursquare Church of Akron. Interment will follow at the Akron Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the family of Bob Elliott. Bowin Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
