Vivian Irene (Sills) Haswell Obituary
Vivian Irene Haswell returned to God August 3, 2018 at the age of 98.
Vivian was born March 17, 1920 to Martin James Sills and Ida Mae Keeler Sills in Apulia Station, New York. She was the loving wife of Col Donald Glenn Haswell, deceased. Vivian was a devoted mother of seven children: Frederick Young of Skaneateles, New York; Darlene Woldanski of Trenton, New Jersey; Robert Young of Johnstown, Colorado; Master Chief, James Haswell of El Paso, Texas; Joseph Haswell of LaSalle, Colorado; Tracey Haswell Hoover of Holden Beach, North Carolina; and Donna Haswell of Holden Beach, North Carolina. Vivian was grandmother to 32 grandchildren, great-grandmother to 43 great-grandchildren and great-great grandmother to six great-great grandchildren. She has one surviving brother, Merton James Sills of Boonville, Missouri and one deceased brother, Martin Jay Sills of Chittenango Falls, New York.
Vivian was a distinguished writer, a poet, painter, ceramist and hobbyist. She was one of the first Lay-Women in the Lutheran Church. She was a group home parent to 177 abused and abandoned boys. She cashiered auctions all over Colorado with Dad (Col. Don Haswell). Vivian was a strong, dedicated and joyful person with a dish of impishness and always had a twinkle in her eye. Her smile was infectious with a touch of impish gleam, and she had an unwavering belief in God and was a devout Lutheran.
She lived at Holden Beach, North Carolina and spent the last year in Autumn Care Shallotte, North Carolina. She was a member of St Luke's Lutheran Church, Shallotte, North Carolina. Vivian was in Lower Cape Fear Hospice Care in Bolivia, North Carolina for five days. The family's gratitude goes to both of these homes for the loving care they bestowed on their mother.
She has blessed each one of us with many talents and instilled in us strength, faith, love and an unwavering belief that we can accomplish anything if we set our mind to it. Vivian will be forever in our hearts and souls with our loving memories and through our creativity, artistry and in our faith.
