Warren V ""Bog"" Howard Obituary
Warren V. Howard (Bog), 93 of Akron, passed away Tuesday, July 25, 2017 at the Washington County Nursing Home in Akron.
Warren was born June 17, 1924 in Akron, Colorado to Roy Sr. and Elsie (Spicknall) Howard. He grew up in Akron, where he graduated from high school. After high school, Warren enlisted and served in the Army Air Corps from 1943-1946.
Warren returned to Akron and on November 2, 1958 married Emma Clowser of Otis. They shared 47 years of marriage together and had three children: son Keith and daughters Karen and Leta. Warren built the family home, fondly known as the "pink house" on Hickory Avenue.
Warren was a lifelong resident of Akron and worked at the Akron Lumber yard, Yeaman and Gordon's, Y-W Electric and Akron Post Office. Warren was known as the town mailman and spent 25 years delivering mail to the residents of Akron. He retired in 1984 from the postal service.
In retirement, he enjoyed relearning to play the trombone, working in his shop, making one of a kind woodwork projects, rocking horses for each grandchild and traveling to see family and CBI (China Burma India) friends. Warren loved his family, stamp collecting, playing solitaire, listening to good polka music and John Philips Sousa. He was a wonderful son, brother, husband, father, grandpa and great-grandpa. His serious, quiet nature and dry sense of humor will be missed by all.
Warren is survived by his children, son, Keith Howard, and wife, Cindy of Bothell, WA and their children, Morgan and Oliver; daughter, Karen Howard and children Trent (Kristie) Stonerook of Sun Prairie, WI, Grant (Sami) Stonerook of Scottsdale, AZ, Leigh and Carly Stonerook of Phoenix, AZ; Leta Pratt and great-grandson, Robert Smith of Greeley; nieces, cousins, health-care providers and staff at the Akron Nursing Home.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Emma; brother, Roy Jr.; and granddaughter, Kaley Pratt.
Memorial contributions, in Warren's memory, may be made to the VFW in Akron.
Funeral services were held Saturday, July 28, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Akron with Rev. Phil Vogels officiating. Linda Hayes, organist, accompanied Lea Ann Laybourn and Annette Bowin as they sang, "Over the Sunset Mountains" and "Old Rugged Cross." The recessional, On the Wings of a Dove" was sung as casket bearers escorted the casket for Military Rites burial. Interment followed in the Akron Cemetery with Bowin Funeral Home of Akron handling the arrangements.
